Mission Trip Basics

After you've read the basics below, find out the dates of upcoming trips. You may also want to read about other traveler's personal experiences in Haiti with FHM. You may want to read the section on getting ready to go, or immediately sign up to reserve your place on a mission team.

  • FHM plans and makes local arrangements for each trip to our three partner communities in Haiti.  Staff or board members lead each group.

  • While in Haiti, participants visit the three communities, learn about daily life, and establish relationships with community members.

  • Trips vary in content.  You can join a medical trip, a construction project, plan to work and play with children, or plan a new kind of trip.

  • If the trip dates posted do not coincide with your availability, feel free to inquire about other possibilities. We arrange special trips for groups, typically of ten or more. And, more trips often are added as each year progresses. We can put you on a contact list for notification.

  • FHM has conducted 6-8 trips per year for over 8 years without incident.  Our partners and friends in Haiti advise us if political/social conditions are not right, as they did for one trip in 2005.  Read more about security in Haiti.

  • Each participant must fill out an application and a liability waiver which can be downloaded from this website.  See below for the forms.

  • Space is generally limited to 15 people and reservations are taken on a first come first serve basis.

  • There is a $200 non-refundable deposit at the time of registration.

  • Total trip cost for 2008 is $800 plus airfare.  This includes housing, meals, ground transportation, and tips. In 2009, costs will rise to $900 due to general inflation.

  • Other costs not covered are for obtaining your passport, immunizations or personal spending money in Haiti.

  • All trip costs are tax deductible.

  • Each participant is responsible making and paying separately for their own airplane reservation.  Depending on how far ahead you plan, costs are in the $400 to $800 range.

  • When you obtain your airline reservation, make sure that you are on the same flight with the team on the leg from Miami to and from Port-au-Prince so that we all arrive and leave together.
