Chloroquine Resistant Malaria Research in Haiti

In December of 2009, Family Health Ministries began a collaboration with Dr. Bernard Okech, Phd, from the Department of Environmental and Global Health, Emerging Pathologies Institute at the University of Florida (Gainsville). Dr. Okech is researching a better way to understand why some types of malaria are not cured with regular medications for treatment. Long-term goals of Dr. Okech's research is to understand the development of malaria within mosquitoes, and then to develop a prevention method from the spread of malaria to humans from mosquitoes.

Specifically in Haiti with Family Health Ministries, he is investigating more effective methods for malaria prevention and treatment using clinical studies.
