David Walmer on North Carolina People with William Friday on Jan 29 and 31
FHM founder and board chairman David Walmer will appear on NC People with Bill Friday (UNC Public TV) on both Friday, January 29, at 9 pm, and Sunday, January 31, at 5:30.
Although this episode of North Carolina People was taped on December 16, before the January 12th earthquake in Haiti, it will give viewers some good perspectives on FHM's work in Haiti.
Update on Sharyn and Rodney Babe via Pix Mahler
Friends,
I had a very uplifting phone conversation this afternoon (Mon 18th) with Sharyn's sister-in-law (Rodney's sister), Nancy Babe.
Sharyn will be moved to rehab in the next day or so. However she still has a long recovery road ahead. Her back and some ribs were broken.
Rodney is still in Haiti continuing his work in relief efforts and crisis management. He is able to come to FT. Lauderdale very quickly if needed. He stays in touch with Sharyn.
Nancy asked that people continue to hold Sharyn and Rodney in your prayers. Thanksgiving for Sharyn's improving condition and request for strength and patience during the healing. Prayers asking for protection, health and strength for Rodney as he continues using his gifts of language, cultural awareness and networking skills.

FHM Clinic used to help - from Pastor Leon and his wife Jacky
Mission of Hope (MOH) a well know Christian group based in Ti Tayin about 30 minutes away from Port-au-Prince had contacted me to use our facility at Blanchard to help the people that have been severely injured from the quake.
They visited several sites and chose to work with us.
They started working today. They're using the upper part of the clinic (finished last February by FHM volunteers.)
Many people come to see them today; unfortunately, I didn't have a camera to take pictures and send to you. I hope to do that tomorrow.
See the clinic in use in the MSNBC story.

Haitian Creole for the Haitian Recovery
Mon.-Weds. 6:00-7:15
Reginald Patterson with Laura Wagner
This introductory course in Haitian Creole is targeted toward future participants in the Haitian Recovery from the earthquake of January 2010. It is particularly geared toward preparation for verbal interactions in a health care environment, but engineering, architecture/urban planning, religion, and law are also represented; students’ immediate work plans will be integrated into the class structure.
The Textbook, Haitian Creole for Health Care, helps students to acquire basic communicative competence in Kreyòl with an emphasis on oral expression and listening comprehension, in tandem with proficiency in reading and basic written interactions. The course provides creative cultural context and insight for all linguistic material, familiarization with elements of Haitian popular culture, and pragmatic orientation for experience on the ground in Haiti. Course taught in Kreyòl, developed by Deborah Jenson and taught by Reginald Patterson with Laura Wagner.
